Mom, Dino, and Karma!
The Dean Martin Show. When I was a kid at good old St. Anthony High School in Long Beach, my world fit inside a record player. My favorite singer? Dean Martin. One afternoon my mom walked through the front door with a surprise under her arm — Dean Martin’s “Pretty Baby.” That album was gold. I played that 33 RPM record until it crackled and scratched and nearly gave up on me. I emulated Dean's voice and look. Got good at it. I knew every lyric, every pause, every wink you could hear in his voice. Dino was a singer. with smooth confidence. He was cool without trying. And who could have imagined… ten years later… I’d be standing just a few feet away from “The King of Cool” himself on The Dean Martin Show at NBC Burbank. Good Karma has a funny way of closing the circle. I owe that moment — that unbelievable moment — to my mom. She didn’t just buy me a record. She made a dream come true. "Let's have a Vino for Dino."
