Two Kings of Cool !
The Dean Martin Show — The Two Kings. Dino Paul Crocetti, the “King of Cool,” and Elvis Aaron Presley, the “King of Rock and Roll.” One night in 1968, just before the KNBC 11 p.m. news with Tom Brokaw and Ross Porter, I spotted a man in a black leather outfit at the old NBC apple machine, trying to figure out where the dime went. It was Elvis Presley — in the flesh. We talked a moment, and Elvis said he’d like to meet Tom Brokaw. I walked him over and introduced them. Then Elvis headed across the hall to Studio 4 for his NBC comeback special.I smiled and said, “Funny coincidence — that’s where we tape The Dean Martin Show on Sundays.” Elvis just grinned… and walked off to make television history. "Let’s have a Vino for Dino… and Elvis."
